This peptide sequence has been identified by Arap et al (2004). The peptide binds to glucose-regulated protein-78 (GRP78), a clinically relevant tumor antigen expressed on the cell surface of metastatic tumors. The peptide has been used to target GRP78 in tumors in vitro, in mouse models of breast and prostate cancer, and in human patient-derived tumor samples (Arap et al, 2004; Mitz et al, 2003).
Wood et al (2008) have used functionalized hybrid polymers with this peptide and shown that it can condense plasmid DNA into small nanoparticle structures and transfect cells expressing GRP78 with very high efficiency.
