Terlipressin

This peptide (triglycyl-lysine-vasopressin; known also as Glypressin) is a synthetic analog of vasopressin with the sequence GGGCYFQNCPKG. In contrast to vasopression, which requires continuous infusion, Terlipressin can be given by intermittent intravenous injections (for an overview of the pharmacology see: Kam et al, 2004). It is used in the treatment for hepatorenal syndrome (Gluud et al, 2012) and septic shock (Biban and Gaffuri, 2013; Serpa Neto et al, 2012).

In vivo, Terlipressin is cleaved slowly to vasopressin but also seems to have an intrinsic vasoconstrictor effect of its own (Burroughs, 1998). Unlike vasopressin, terlipressin does not appear to have an effect on plasminogen activator (Douglas et al, 1979).
