Taeniophygin-2

This peptide (QPKRSCRGHCSRTCGKGEREEHTEDCGGMHCCLTHRKR), encoded in the genome of zebra finches (Taeniopygia guttata), has been identified by Gong et al (2010) through sequence databank searches. The peptide, related to Beta-Defensins, has been grouped as a member of the ovodefensin family of proteins. It is not known whether the peptide plays a role in host defense as direct antibacterial activity has not been demonstrated.
