[transiently expressed in the neural precursors] This avian protein of unknown function has been found to be expressed transiently in neural precursors of developing tissues. Maehashi et al (2014) have reported that the protein is a major protein in emu (Dromaius novaehollandiae) egg white. TENP gene is highly expressed in the magnum of the oviduct TENP shows antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, including Micrococcus luteus and Bacillus subtilis, but not against Gram-negative bacteria such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium.
