abbr. spx. This antimicrobial peptide, GVLDILKGAAKDLAGHVATKVINKIamide, has been isolated from the skin of the South American frog Leptodactylus syphax (Dourado FS et al, 2007). In databanks it is known also as Ocellatin-S1 (see: ocellatins). Shorter fragments spx(1-22) (Syphaxin(1-22)) and spx(1-16) (Syphaxin(1-16)) show weak activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, showing low minimal inhibitory concentration and no significant toxicity towards blood cells, including both leukocytes and erythrocytes,.
