Ls-Stylicin 1 [Litopenaeus stylirostris stylicin 1] is an antimicrobial peptide of 82 residues from the penaeid shrimp, Litopenaeus stylirostris (Rolland et al, 2010). The sequence does not show any relationship to other antimicrobial peptides and is thought to be the first member of the stylicin family of antimicrobial peptides.
Monomeric and dimeric forms of Ls-Stylicin 1 show strong antifungal activity against Fusarium oxysporum, a pathogenic fungus of shrimp, but lower antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria, Vibrio sp. Ls-Stylicin1 shows potent LPS binding activity on immobilized LPS of V. penaeicidae.
