[Streptococcus pyogenes cell-envelope protease] SpyCep has been referred to also as ScpC [streptococcal chemokine protease C] (Hidalgo-Grass, 2006), PrtS, and interleukin-8 protease (IL8 protease). SpyCep (1647 amino acids) is a secreted protease covalently linked to the streptococcal cell wall via a C-terminal LPXTG motif and is an essential virulence factor of Streptococcus pyogenes (Hidalgo-Grass et al, 2006).
