[SRY-box containing gene 17; sex determining region Y-box 17; SRY-related HMG-box gene 17; SRY box 17] SOX17 is transcription factor that contains a high-mobility group DNA-binding domain and belongs to the Sox family (Schepers et al, 2002). The human gene has been cloned by Katoh (2002). SOX17 is expressed in various tissues (adult heart, lung, spleen, testis, ovary, placenta, fetal lung, and kidney).
