[Secretory carrier membrane protein 5] SCAMP5 is a member of a family of secretory carrier membrane proteins that are widely distributed integral membrane proteins implicated in membrane trafficking.
Fernandez-Chacon and Sudhof (2000) have cloned mouse and rat SCAMP5. The human gene has been cloned by Han et al (2009). SCAMP5 is widely expressed by a variety of neuronal and nonneuronal tissues and cells. Han et al (2009) have shown that SCAMP5 can translocate from the Golgi apparatus to the plasma membrane and, in cooperation with the SNARE machinery, is involved in calcium-regulated exocytosis of signal peptide-containing cytokines.
