[serum amyloid A]; Called also Serum amyloid A1 or Amyloid fibril protein AA or AA protein [Amyloid A protein]. SAA constitutes a protein family related to the A proteins of secondary amyloidosis (Bausserman et al, 1980, 1982; Betts et al, 1991; Strachan et al, 1989). The SAA gene superfamily is localized to 11p15.1 (Sellar et al, 1994). SAA1 and SAA2 have 90 % nucleotide identity (Betts et al, 1991).
