Raniseptins constitute a family of antimicrobial peptides isolated from the skin secretion of the anuran Hypsiboas raniceps (Chaco tree frog; Hyla roeschmanni) (Magalhães et al, 2008)
Raniseptin-1 (AWLDKLKSLGKVVGKVALGVAQNYLNPQQ) has antimicrobial activity against Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Xanthomonas citri, and the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus without significant lytic effect against human erythrocytes. By similarity, the other raniseptins are thought to possess antimicrobial activities and play a protective role in innate immunity:
