Radar is a gene involved in the control of early zebrafish embryogenesis. It appears to be conserved throughout vertebrate evolution and defines a subfamily within the Transforming growth factor-beta superfamily (see: TGF-beta; see also: gene family).
Radar has been implicated in the dorso-ventral polarity of the neural plate, blood islands formation, blood cells differentiation, the establishment of retinal dorso-ventral polarity and/or proper axonal retinotectal projections (Rissi et al, 1995).
Radar is considered the zebrafish ortholog of mammalian GDF6 [growth/differentiation factor-6] (Davidson et al, 1999), and is being referred to as
