RNA helicase A, identified in HeLa cells by Lee and Hurwitz (1992), is a nuclear enzyme that mediates the displacement of dsRNA substrates in a 3' to 5’ direction, suggesting a role in nuclear RNA metabolism. Owing to sequence homologies the enzyme is thought to be the mammalian counterpart of the Drosophila melanogaster RNA helicase known as MLE [maleless; gene: CG11680
