[RNA helicase A; ATP-dependent RNA helicase A] This enzyme is being referred to also as Aspartate-glutamate-alanine-histidine box motif (DEAH)/RNA helicase A and is identical with DEAH box protein 9 (see: DHX9, which is also the approved gene symbol.
RNA helicase A, identified in HeLa cells by Lee and Hurwitz (1992), is a nuclear enzyme that mediates the displacement of dsRNA substrates in a 3' to 5’ direction, suggesting a role in nuclear RNA metabolism. Owing to sequence homologies the enzyme is thought to be the mammalian counterpart of the Drosophila melanogaster RNA helicase known as MLE [maleless; gene: CG11680
