[R3h domain containing-like] R3hdml was identified originally as a protein of unknown function expressed in glomerular podocytes (Takemoto et al, 2006).
Sakamoto et al (2019) have reported that R3hdml is a secreted protein released by skeletal satellite cells. It is required for skeletal muscle development, regeneration, and, in particular, satellite cell proliferation and differentiation. Expression of R3hdml increases during skeletal muscle development and differentiation in mice. Knock-out mice lacking expression of the protein have lower body weights and skeletal muscle mass and show reduced expression levels of markers related to the cell cycle, phosphorylation of Akt, and
