Kim et al (2011) have reported that The Drosophila melanogaster protein Psidin, encoded by gene CG4845, is an actin regulatory protein that plays a conserved role in protrusion dynamics and cell migration. In the fly, the absence of Psidin causes defects in the migration of border cells in the ovary. Knock-down of the human homolog of Psidin reduces the speed and directionality of migration in wounded MCF10A breast epithelial monolayers, whereas overexpression of the protein increases migration speed and alters protrusion dynamics in cells stimulated with EGF.
