Properdistatin is a bioactive fragment (see also: cryptides) derived from the CFP [complement factor properdin] gene, which encodes properdin. Properdistatin [GPWEPCSVTCSKGTRTRRR] corresponds to residues 143-161 of Properdin (Properdin(143-161)). Properdistatin has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and is therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008).
