Periplanetasin are peptides isolated from extracts of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana Linnaeus.
Periplanetasin-2 with the sequence YPCKLNLKLGKVPFH, inhibits the decrease in cell proliferation induced in human colonocytes (HT29 cells) by Clostridium difficile toxin A. The peptide ameliorates cell apoptosis induced by this toxin. In a toxin A-induced mouse enteritis model, the peptide blocks the mucosal disruption and inflammatory response caused by toxin A (Hong et al, 2017).
