[phosphoglucose isomerase] This cytosolic enzyme is known as EC5.3.1.9; phosphohexose isomerase; phosphohexomutase, hexosephosphate isomerase), also: PHI [Phosphohexose isomerase] GPI1 [Glucose-6-phosphate isomerase 1], GPI [glucose-6-phosphate isomerase]. It plays a critical role in the Embden-Meyerhof glycolytic and glucogenetic pathways. The enzyme catalyzes the reversible inter-conversion of glucose-6-phosphate to fructose-6-phosphate (Noltmann, 1972).
Cloning of the gene (Watanabe et al, 1996) has shown that PGI is identical with AMF [
