[oxidative stress-associated Src activator] Ossa has been identified in gastric scirrhous carcinoma cells by Tanaka et al (2009). The protein is identical with an uncharacterized protein, C9orf10 [chromosome 9 open reading frame 10], for which 3 splice variants have been reported (Holden and Raymond, 2003. The gene has been cloned independently as KIAA0183. The approved gene symbol for Ossa is FAM120A [family with sequence similarity 120A].
Ossa has been shown to be an RNA binding protein that guards cancer cells from oxidative stress-induced cell death by apoptosis
