Osmin

This 17 residue cysteine-free C-amidated antibiotic peptide (GFLSALKKYLPIVLKHVamide) has been identified by Stöcklin et al (2010) in the venom from the solitary bee Osmia rufa (Hymenoptera: Megachilidae; Red mason bee). Osmin shows some similarities with the MCD peptide family [mast cell degranulation peptide family]). The peptide is able to inhibit bacterial and fungal growth at micromolar concentrations and shows hemolytic activity.
