The protein is being referred to also as serine protease-25 (old gene symbol PRSS25; approved gene symbol HtrA2 [HTRA serine peptidase 2; high-temperature requirement factor A2]).
Omi is a ubiquitously expressed mammalian serine protease (458 amino acids) (Faccio et al, 2000). Highest expression levels are observed in heart and skeletal muscle and variable distribution in brain regions. Expression is upregulated in mammalian cells in response to stress induced by both heat shock and tunicamycin treatment (Gray et al, 2000).
