[2'-5'-OAS2; 2'-5'-oligoadenylate synthetase 2; oligoadenylate synthetase 2; 2'-5'-oligo(A) synthetase 2]
OAS2 is a member of a small family of related enzymes (OAS1, OAS3, OASL) (Hovnanian et al, 1998; Justesen et al, 2000; Perelygin et al, 2006; Kristiansen et al, 2011) the expression of which is induced by interferons. At least 2 isoforms (OAS2 p69 [p69 oligoadenylate synthetase] (69 kDa); OAS2 p71 [p71 oligoadenylate synthetase] (71 kDa) are produced by alternative splicing (Marie and Hovanessian, 1992). The enzyme catalyzes the synthesis of 2'-5'-oligoadenylate molecules from ATP (Hovanessian and Justesen 2007)
