This peptide with the sequence LVGKLLKGAVGDVCGLLPIC has been purified from frog skin secretions of Odorrana andersonii. The peptide contains an intramolecular disulfide bridge formed by two cysteine residues (Shang et al, 2017). OA-A1 potently promotes the proliferation of mouse beta-cells (β-TC-6 cells) and significantly stimulates insulin release. In the animal model, OA-A1 also shows a dose-dependent insulin-releasing role in vivo. OA-A1 shows a significant acute hypoglycemic effect on streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice and increases pancreatic islet areas of diabetic mice. OA-A1 also significantly improves the oral glucose tolerance of STZ-induced diabetic mice.
