This peptide [TSKYR; Thr-Ser-Lys-Tyr-Arg] is derived from the C-terminus of the alpha-chain of hemoglobin (Takagi et al, 1982). It corresponds to HbA(137-141) that has been identified independently as having antibacterial activity (Nedjar-Arroume et al, 2006).
The peptide exhibits analgesic activity (Fukui et al, 1983) with a potency equal to that of Leu-Enkephalin (Kiso et al, 1983).
Zhu et al (1986) have isolated the peptide from a variety of lung carcinoma cells.
Kase et al (1986) have reported that the peptide is metabolized by angiotensin-converting enzyme, which releases the bioactive Tyr-Arg
