[natural killer cytotoxic factor] NKCF is known also as NK-CIA [Natural killer colony-inhibiting activity] or simply killer factor.
This term is an operational definition for factors of approximately 20-40 kDa released by NK-cells bound to NK-sensitive target cells. NKCF shows selective cytotoxicity for NK-sensitive target cells (see also: LAK cells, lymphokine-activated killer cells). This biological activity is due to the formation of transmembrane channels that make the cellular membrane permeable.
