[NK-cytolytic T lymphocytes; NK-cytotoxic T lymphocytes] This cell type constitutes a subpopulation of CD8(+) HLA-E-restricted cytolytic T-lymphocytes (CTL) (Pietra et al, 2001, 2003). These cells, which show a strong tendency of monoclonality, lyse certain target cells that are susceptible to lysis by NK-cells. NK-CTL are frequently composed of cells expressing one single TCR Vbeta expansion (different in different individuals), display a memory phenotype and express HLA class 1-specific inhibitory NK-cell receptors. These cells do not appear to lyse target cells characterized by beta-2-Microglobulin deficiency.
