This peptide, GDCLPHLKLCKENKDCCSKKCKRRGTNIEKRCR, has been isolated from the venom of the Tunisian chactid scorpion Scorpio maurus palmatus (Fajloun Z et al, 2000). The peptide potently and reversibly modifies channel gating behavior of the type 1 ryanodine receptor by inducing prominent subconductance behavior.
Apart from its calcium channel activity, the peptide is a cell-penetrating peptide and has been used as a non-toxic vector for the cell penetration of a variety of cargoes, including proteins (Estève et al;, 2005), peptides (Ram et al, 2008), small dyes (Poillot et al, 2012), drugs such as doxorubicin (Aroui et al, 2009, 2009, 2009, 2010) or nanoparticles(Ram et al, 2011; Stasiuk et al, 2011).
