[MDV EcoRI-Q] MEQ is encoded in the long repeat of the genome of the chicken herpesvirus Marek disease virus (Jones et al, 1992). Another designation for Marek’s disease virus is GaHV-2 [Gallid alphaherpesvirus 2]. MEQ is therefore being referred to also as Marek disease virus MEQ protein or Gallid alphaherpesvirus 2 MEQ protein.
MEQ protein is composed of an N-terminal basic leucine zipper domain and a proline- rich C-terminal transactivation domain (Qian et al, 1995).
