[mitocryptide-ND4L] This peptide, Formyl-MPLIY, is a so-called mitocryptide (see also: cryptides). The peptide is derived from the N-terminus of the parent protein, which is MT-ND4L [NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 4L], known also as NADH dehydrogenase 4L or NADH-ubiquinone oxidoreductase chain 4L, a core subunit of the mitochondrial membrane respiratory chain NADH dehydrogenase (Complex I). The peptide shows very weak activity in cell activation of neutrophils. It activates NADPH oxidase but gives rise to a very low level of superoxide release (Gabl M et al, 2018).
