This peptide, CGNKRTRGC, has been identified in a phage display library screening on MDA-MB-435 breast carcinoma xenografts. LyP-1 also recognizes an osteosarcoma xenograft, and spontaneous prostate and breast cancers in transgenic mice. The peptide shows high specificity for tumor lymphatics. LyP-1 peptide is detected in tumor structures that are positive for three lymphatic endothelial cell markers (LYVE-1, podoplanin, VEGFR3) and negative for three blood vessel markers. LyP-1 accumulates in the nuclei of the putative lymphatic cells, and in the nuclei of tumor cells (Laakkonen et al, 2002). CGNKRTRGC
