approved gene symbol: LCN1. This protein is known also as Tear lipocalin (abbr. TL) and has been described independently as VEGP [von Ebner's gland protein] (also: VEG protein) as it is found in lingual salivary glands (Blaker et al, 1993). The protein is being referred to also as tear prealbumin (Redl et al, 1992) and has been identified in tears as PMFA [protein migrating faster than albumin] (Baier et al, 1990).
Lipocalin-1 is found in high concentrations in tear fluid and other secretions such as saliva
