Leptoglycin is a neutral Glycine/Leucine-rich antimicrobial peptide (GLLGGLLGPLLGGGGGGGGGLL) from skin secretion of the South American frog Leptodactylus pentadactylus (Sousa et al, 2009). Leptoglycin inhibits the growth of Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Citrobacter freundii, but does not show antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus, Micrococcus luteus and Enterococcus faecalis), yeasts (Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis), and dermatophytes fungi (Microsporum canis, Trichophyton rubrum). The peptide is not hemolytic for red blood cells.
