Lacritin

abbr. and approved gene symbol: LACRT. Lacritin is a secreted glycoprotein. Lacritin is highly expressed in human lacrimal gland and appears in the tear fluid. It is expressed moderately in salivary glands, and slightly in thyroid (Sanghi et al, 2001). Weigelt et al (2003) have reported expression of lacritin in breast cancer tissues and cell lines. Lacritin expression has been reported to become downregulated in blepharitis and in two dry eye syndromes (Koo et al, 2005).

The lacritin gene consists of five exons and maps to 12q13. Apart from acting as an autocrine and paracrine enhancer of the lacrimal constitutive secretory pathway, lacritin functions as a mitogen for ductal cells and stimulator of corneal ... ... ... ... ...
