This cell-penetrating peptide, RRKRRRRRK, corresponds to LPIN3(141-149) (Lim S et al, 2012). It is part of the nuclear localization sequence of LPIN3 [Lipin 3], a human phosphatidate phosphatase, which has phosphatidate phosphatase type-1 activity and has a key role in glycerolipid metabolism (Donkor et al, 2007). A fusion peptide consisting of LPIN linked to enhanced green fluorescence protein delivers the cargo protein efficiently into cells where it localizes to the nucleus as well as the cytoplasm.
