This fungal furanosylated indolocarbazole alkaloid is a derivative of Staurosporine.
The compound is an efficient inhibitor of protein kinases (IC50 of 10 to 30 nM), including protein kinase C and serine/threonine protein kinases. K252a is used, therefore, to study the involvement of these kinases in post receptor signaling processes K252a inhibits some of the activities of NGF in PC12 cells and has no effect on biological activities mediated by EGF and bFGF. Gangliosides prevent the inhibition by K252a of NGF responses in PC12
