(approved gene symbol) [X-linked inhibitor of growth] The gene encoding this protein of 42 amino acids has been cloned by Jäger et al (1999). It is located on the human X-chromosome. The gene is expressed in all normal tissues tested and in some cancer cell lines. The protein shares 76 % identity over its length with the much longer ING1 protein and in databanks is being referred to also as ING1-like. The protein is the same as ING2 [inhibitor of growth 2].
