[interleukin enhancer binding factor] ILF is a DNA binding protein that binds to purine-rich sequence motifs in the promoter of the IL2 gene (Li et al, 1991). ILF also binds to purine-rich regulatory motifs in the HIV1 long terminal repeat. The protein is expressed constitutively in lymphoid and non-lymphoid tissues. The corresponding gene maps to human chromosome 17q25 (Li et al, 1992). The approved gene symbol for this factor is FOXK2 [Forkhead Box K2]. Marais et al (2010) have reported that the factor functions as a transcriptional repressor during the cell cycle.
