(approved gene symbol) [interferon-induced protein with tetratricopeptide repeats-5]. The protein is a member of a gene family consisting of IFIT1, IFIT2, IFIT3, IFIT5. Mice and rats lack IFIT5 (for overview see also: Fensterl and Sen, 2011; Zhou et al, 2013).
IFIT5 has been identified independently as RI58 [Retinoic acid- and interferon-inducible 58 kDa protein], a protein that is induced by IFN-alpha, IFN-beta, or retinoic acid treatment in acute promyelocytic leukemia NB4 cells (Niikura et al (1997). It is being referred to also as ISG58 [
