[Hematopoietic cell antigen] HCA is expressed on 40 - 70 % of CD34(+) fetal and adult bone marrow cells and mobilized peripheral blood cells. HCA is expressed by the most primitive subsets of CD34(+) cells, including all cell types that show little staining with rhodamine-123, Thy1(+) cells, and CD38(-) and CD38(low) CD34(+) adult bone marrow cells. HCA is detected also on myeloid progenitors but not on early B-cell progenitors.
