[glucagon-like peptide-1] GLP-1, formerly called insulinotropin (Mojsov et al, 1987), is a peptide hormone (HDEFERHAEGTFTSDVSSYLEGQAAKEFIAWLVKGRG; His-Asp-Glu-Phe-Glu-Arg-His-Ala-Glu-Gly-Thr-Phe-Thr-Ser-Asp-Val-Ser-Ser-Tyr-Leu-Glu-Gly-Gln-Ala-Ala-Lys-Glu-Phe-Ile-Ala-Trp-Leu-Val-Lys-Gly-Arg-Gly) encoded by the preproglucagon gene. The protein corresponds to PG(78-107) [proglucagon(78-107)] (see also: Holst, 1997).
