Fibulostatins are bioactive fragments (see also: cryptides) derived from the HMCN1 [Hemicentin 1] gene, the product of which is known as fibulin-6. Fibulostatins have been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and are therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008).
