[ferroportin-1] also: FPN [Ferroportin] Approved gene symbol: SLC40A1 [solute carrier family 40 member 1] (old designation: SLC11A3 [Solute carrier family 11 member 3]). The same gene has been cloned by McKie et al (2000), who referred to it as IREG1 [iron-regulated transporter-1]. In the mouse the gene has been identified also as MTP1 [metal transporting protein 1] (Abboud and Haile, 2000).
