[Degradation in endoplasmic reticulum protein 1] [Der1-like protein 1] This protein is being referred to also as DERL1 [Der1-like domain family member 1], or DER1 [Degradation in endoplasmic reticulum protein 1]. Derlin-1 is a protein of 251 amino acids is a multispanning membrane protein forming homo-oligomers that has been identified as an evolutionarily conserved protein with homologs in all eukaryotes by Lilley and Ploegh (2004, 2005). Derlin-1 interacts with human cytomegalovirus-encoded glycoprotein US11, an immunoevasin that induces the dislocation of class I MHC heavy chains from the endoplasmic reticulum membrane and targets them for proteasomal degradation in the cytosol.
