[defensin-beta-14; beta-Defensin-14] abbr. also: BD-14. This murine Beta-Defensin (see also: defensins) has been identified as an ortholog of human beta-Defensin-3 (DEFB103) (Röhrl J et al, 2008). It shows 68% homology to its human ortholog.
The mouse protein is expressed in a wide variety of tissues including spleen, colon, and tissues of the upper and lower respiratory tract. It is expressed also in immature CD11c(+) bone marrow-derived dendritic cells. The expression of Defb14 can be induced by Toll-like receptor agonists such as
