[delta sleep-inducing peptide] This nonapeptide with the sequence WAGGDASGE (Trp-Ala-Gly-Gly-Asp-Ala-Ser-Gly-Glu) has been isolated originally from cerebral venous blood of rabbits subjected to low-frequency electrical stimulation (Schoenenberger and Monnier, 1977; for overview see: Schoenenberger, 1984).
The peptide is secreted from hypothalamus but it is found also in large amounts in pineal gland, adrenal glands (Iyer and McCann, 1987; Charnat et al, 1989). It has been shown to be able to cross the blood-brain barrier (Monnier et al, 1977; Kastin et al, 1981, 1982; Roy et al, 2018).
