This factor of 18 kDa was identified originally as PRP [proline-rich polypeptide] in ovine colostrum, a uniform mixture of low-molecular weight, proline-rich polypeptides.
In mice, PRP has many regulatory effects on the humoral and cellular immune response, inducing the maturation and differentiation of murine thymocytes, the formation of helper cells from PNA(high) thymocytes, and of cytotoxic T-cells from PNA(low) thymocytes.
