(approved gene symbol) [carboxypeptidase E] This enzyme, EC3.4.17.10, is a zinc metallocarboxypeptidase enriched in mature secretory vesicles (Varlamov and Fricker, 1996) and in the trans Golgi network (Eng et al, 1999; Varlamov and Fricker, 1998). The enzyme has been described also as carboxypeptidase H (abbr. CPH), a putative post-translational processing enzyme that removes basic amino acid residues from intermediates during protein hormone biosynthesis (Rodríguez et al, 1989; Parkinson, 1990). It has been been noted as cobalt-stimulated chromaffin granule carboxypeptidase in some databanks (and refers to the enzymes described by Fricker and Snyder (1982) and Hook and Eiden (1985), both of which are stimulated by cobalt chloride),
