CHCHD5 has been identifiedby Babbar et al (2018) who referred to it asCHTM1 [Coiled-coil Helix Tumor and Metabolism 1]. CHCHD5 is a protein of 12.9 kDa found in both cytosol and mitochondria. Cancer cells deficient in CHCHD5 have been shown to grow poorly in growth media lackingglucose and glutamine. CHCHD5 modulates lipid metabolism to promote cell survival under metabolic stress, and regulates the expression of genes important for fatty acid oxidation and synthesis.
