Bicarinalin

This antibacterial peptide with the sequence KIKIPWGKVKDFLVGGMKAV has been isolated from the venom of the ant Tetramorium bicarinatu (Rifflet et al, 2012). It is active at micromolar concentrations against a broad range Gram-positive bacteria, Gram-negative bacteria, fungi and also has antiparasitic activities.

Cronobacter sakazakii, Salmonella enterica, Candida albicans, Aspergilus niger, and Saccharomyces cerevisiae are particularly susceptible, and resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Candida albicans are as susceptible as canonical strains. Bicarinalin is also active against the parasite Leishmania infantum and shows a long half-life in human serum and low toxicity for human ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
