[Brain development-related molecule 1] The rat Bdm1 is expressed more abundantly in the adult brain than in the embryonic brain (Yamauchi et al, 1999). Bdm1 expression is upregulated during the differentiation of mouse carcinoma cells P19 to neuron-like cells by retinoic acid and in PC12 cells during neuronal differentiation. Nakada et al (2002) have reported the existence of several isoforms, the expression of which is regulated differentially during rat brain development.
Sequence analysis demonstrates that Bdm1 is identical with NDRG4 [N-Myc downstream regulated-4] and SMAP-8 [
